Oobleck

This is the last of the activities from our Dr. Seuss week that I want to share with you.  To finish off our Dr. Seuss week we read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  If you click on the link it will take you to a great YouTube version of the book.  Oobleck makes for a great discussion about solids, liquids and gases. Oobleck doesn't follow any of the rules for solids, liquids and gases. Before letting the students mess with Oobleck I have them make a prediction based upon looking at it only on whether it is a solid, liquid or a gas.  The great thing about this is that almost every student always predicts it to be a liquid. Wouldn't you agree?

It always amazes the students that Oobleck feels hard to the touch, can be rolled into a ball, but melts in your hand at the same time.  If you haven't tried making it....TRY IT, it is so much fun!  Our second grade had a blast exploring Oobleck and we had some great discussion as a result.

Here is the recipe if you want to give it a try:

Have a great week!
