Hey, Little Ant!

It's been a while...  A long while... Sorry for that!

Today I want to show you what we are doing in our classroom this week.  We are having so much fun!  This week we are reading:

In case you are not familiar with this book it about a boy that meets an ant.  This boy is about to squish the ant but throughout the book the ant is trying to persuade the boy not to squish him.  The fun part of this book is that it ends with a simple question...to squish the ant or not?  Oh, you can bet the students had fun with this!!!  You can also bet I have had so much fun with this!  Here is a link to YouTube in case you don't have the book, it is such a fun way to introduce this story:

During my planning I found a wonderful site for us to do a lot of research about ants to help us in making an informed decision on whether we should squish the ant or not. Click below to go to this site:
FUN SITE!

We spent a lot of time debating whether we should squish the ant or not.  After discussion I broke the students into groups based on these four categories:

The students researched their specific topic and found facts to support their opinion.  After this each group made posters to share the amazing facts we learned about ants.  I will post their posters below. Tomorrow our groups will share their posters, the facts they learned and try to persuade us to see things their way.  I just can't wait to hear their presentations.  Tomorrow we will also do our final activity with this story, they will be making their final decision on whether or not to squish the ant. After they have made their final decision, they will be writing a paragraph sharing their viewpoint after this weeks' studies.  What an exciting week we have had!  Check out their posters below:

Have a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY evening!
