First of all I promised I would share some of our Flat Stanley's that have come home. He has visited so many different places and he has come back in some of the cutest outfits to reflect his visits. Take a look at some of our Stanley's that have returned home so far:
Here is an overview of our map so far:
We also went on our field trip to George Washington Carver two weeks ago. We spent time researching George Washington Carver and his many discoveries. The students found out so many fascinating facts about Carver before we even went on our field trip. Each group created a poster to present the facts they learned to share with the class:
After our George Washington Carver trip we thought about the discoveries and inventions we could design to make the world a better place. Each student thought up and designed their very own invention. After planning, drawing and making a list of items they needed to make this dream come true, I collected as much of the material for the students as I could. We have been working on putting these together. One thing we have learned from this project is that is ok to fail. Sometimes things don't go the way we planned, and that is OK! It is ok to fail as long as we learn from it! We are currently still working on these but here are some snapshots:
We are also planting an outdoor garden in second grade. Last week the students planted lettuce, carrots, radish and other cool season plants. We are also experimenting on planting lettuce straight into a bag of dirt. We will see how this turns out. Here are some photos from that:
Lastly, I am happy to report that our deskless classroom setup is going great! The transition has been so much easier than I first imagined. I am loving it and my students are responding very well to it. I have noticed a decrease in behaviors needing modified and the most exciting thing I have noticed is that there has been a big improvement in engagement and in completion of work. Here is a peak of what our Math time looks like during whole group instruction:
This is a peak of what it looks like in our room when the students are working individually:
WHEW, we have been busy! I think that catches you up to this week. This week we will be waiting on something very exciting to happen...
More pictures about that next week! Have a great week!
